Three specifications determine compatibility with precision stripping: continuous variable or stepped wattage control (not just on/off), a nozzle diameter between 30-40 mm for standard accessory fit, and a maximum output you can actually modulate down. Many hardware-store guns run 1500-2000W with two settings: too hot for veneer, too coarse for detail.

The mini gun's 150-300W range corresponds to 50-180°C effective surface temperatures at 5-10 cm working distance. This is the stripping zone for most restoration work, not the paint-blistering zone of higher-wattage tools.
If your existing gun offers continuous control below 500W, accepts 35 mm diameter nozzles, and you already own an IR thermometer with 12:1 ratio or better, purchase the nozzle and thermometer set separately. Verify nozzle fit before ordering: measure your gun's outlet diameter. Our nozzles fit 35 mm nominal; adapters are not available.
If your current gun has only two settings, lacks temperature feedback, or runs above 1000W minimum output, you cannot safely strip veneer or vintage plastics. The full kit replaces the tool, not just accessorizes it. The thermometer alone will only document the damage, not prevent it.
